The Goleta Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint tomorrow, August 24, 2018, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. This DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint is in continuation of the 18-day mobilization enforcement period leading up to, and through, the Labor Day holiday.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. this morning, August 22, 2018, an employee with the Isla Vista Recreation and Parks District came to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol with a backpack found abandoned in a wooded area of Anisq' Oyo Park in Isla Vista. When deputies looked inside the backpack, they observed a suspected pipe bomb inside. The lobby was immediately closed and the building was evacuated. The Sheriff's Bomb Squad was deployed to respond, examine the suspicious device and render it safe.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is requesting public assistance to help locate a voluntary missing teenager from Tulare County who may be in the Santa Barbara area.

The Traffic Unit of the Goleta Police Department will step up pedestrian safety enforcement operations Wednesday, August 22, 2018, with focused enforcement on collision causing factors involving motorists and pedestrians.

On August 17, 2018, around 2:00 p.m., Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Hot Springs Trailhead on a report of a suspicious vehicle that was parked near the trailhead since Monday, August 13, 2018.
