  • Next Friday, June 30, is the deadline for the County's Cannabis Operations Registry. Additionally, the public is invited to attend a meeting on June 30 in Santa Maria to provide input to the Cannabis Operations Ad Hoc Committee of the Board of Supervisors and ask questions regarding the regulation of medical and recreational cannabis. Topics for discussion include the future of business licensing, land use permitting, and fees and taxation. The meeting is 2-4 p.m. Friday, June 30 at the Santa Maria Betteravia County Admin Complex – Hearing Room, 511 E. Lakeside Parkway, Santa Maria 93454. For information and to enter the Registry, go to http://countyofsb.org/cannabis-committee.sbc.  This registry is not intended for those individuals cultivating cannabis for personal medical use in compliance with County Code Section 35-1003 A.1, or cultivating only six cannabis plants in compliance with Health and Safety Code section 11362.2. Due to sensitive information, the registry is through a secured website maintained by the County.

  • Special Meeting of the County Parks Commission regarding Goleta Beach Park. The community is invited to hear about the status of the Park after recent winter storms and what's next. 6 p.m. July 13, 2017 at Goleta Union School District Office – Board Room, 401 N.   • Agriculture continues to be the county's major producing industry with a gross production value of more than $1.43 billion in 2016.  Ag products grown in Santa Barbara County surpassed $1 billion in 2016, with strawberries leading as the top crop.  Check out the 2016 county ag crop report at www.agcommissioner.com.

  • Art means business in the County! Our local nonprofit arts and culture industry led to $198.6 million in economic activity! Industry spending - $126.3 million by nonprofit arts and culture organizations and an additional $72.3 million in event-related spending by their audiences – supports 5,857 full-time equivalent jobs, generates $131.4 million in household income to County residents, and delivers $19.1 million in local and state government revenue.   • COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ADOPT BALANCED BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2017-18 - County's Balanced Final Budget Closes $28.5 Million Service Level Gap - Yesterday, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors adopted a balanced budget of $1.081 billion for Fiscal Year 2017-18 (FY 17-18). This number reflects an increase of $1.8 million due to revised assessed growth rate as reported by the County Assessor-Clerk-Recorder Joe Holland during the budget hearings. Overall, the total operating revenues of $1.081 billion grew by 6 percent over the previous year's budget. Staffing levels were reduced by 178 budgeted full time positions, not all currently filled.   • SANTA BARBARA COUNTY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR - The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors has approved the appointment of Van (pronounced Vaughn) Do-Reynoso, Ph.D., as the new Public Health Director. Read all about her impressive credentials in the press release.

  • The Santa Barbara County Public Defender's Office and OneJustice's Justice Bus Project® have partnered to offer county residents a FREE legal clinic for individuals in need of criminal record clearance. The clinic is noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 29 in Santa Barbara at the Veteran's Memorial Building, 112 W. Cabrillo Blvd. Appointments are required. Interested individuals should call (323) 739-8093 for information and to schedule an appointment.
